GUT- BRAIN - ACNE CONNECTION

It may not seem obvious or intuitive, but your body is interconnected in many ways and more research is focusing on the “microbiota-gut-brain axis.” It’s the very complex connection between your gut, its microbes, and your brain. This new field has been called a “paradigm shift in neuroscience” (Dinan, 2017).

In fact, there are a number of ways that we’re beginning to understand how our gut microbes can affect our brain and our skin. One is via the “vagus” nerve, which is a nerve that directly connects your gut to your brain. The other ways are through “biochemical messengers.” Biochemicals that are made in your gut and travel throughout the body to communicate with other organs, including your brain. Examples of biochemicals include short chain fatty acids, cytokines, and even tryptophan (the amino acid that the neurotransmitters melatonin and serotonin are made from).

The exciting thing is that this may help us with not only mood and stress, but the microbiota-gut-brain axis may one day prove to be helpful for other conditions like autism and Parkinson’s. “Our trillions of gut microbes seem to be more closely interconnected with our moods than we used to think. “

MOOD, STRESS, AND YOUR MICROBES

Several studies show that stressed rodents not only have increased stress hormones and stressed behaviors; but, they also have different gut microbes! This has also been studied, to a small extent, in people too. One study showed that moms with high levels of stress hormones during pregnancy had infants with more of the “bad” gut microbes. Bad gut health and stress have also been shown to cause acne breakouts. But, can it work the other way around? Can changing our gut microbes affect our moods and stress responses?

Studies of rodents that grow up without any gut microbes at all (in a “bacteria-free” environment) respond to stress more than mice with normal gut microbes. Then, when they’re given either a probiotic or gut microbes from non-stressed mice, their stress responses often go back to normal.

“Gut microbiota and probiotics alter behavior and brain neurochemistry.” (Ait-Belgnaoui, et. al., 2012) That’s a pretty powerful statement.

Love Pimples: What They Are and How To Treat Them

Love Pimples: What They Are and How To Treat Them

If you’ve ever been in a relationship, you may have noticed a few new blemishes on your skin. Don’t worry - you’re not alone! Love pimples are a common occurrence, and they can be treated easily.

In this blog post, we will discuss what love pimples are, why they form, and how to get rid of them.

So, what exactly is a love pimple? Love pimples are simply a type of acne that is caused by stress. When you are under stress, your body produces more hormones, which can lead to breakouts. While love pimples can occur at any time during a relationship, they are most common during the early stages. This is likely due to the fact that we are generally more stressed when we are first getting to know someone and trying to make a good impression.

There are several ways to treat love pimples. One of the most important things you can do is to keep your skin clean. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser, and be sure to remove all makeup before going to bed. Sleeping with your makeup on can clog your pores. In addition, you may want to try a spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or a sulfur spot treatment. These ingredients will help to dry up the pimple and reduce inflammation.

If you are struggling with love pimples, don’t despair - there are plenty of options for clearing your skin! Just remember to be patient, as it can sometimes take a few weeks for treatments to take effect. And if all else fails, remember that your partner is likely to find you just as attractive with a few blemishes as they would with perfect skin. After all, love should be about more than just physical appearance!

3 Ways to Lift Your Spirits and Clear Your Skin!

3 Ways to Lift Your Spirits and Clear Your Skin!

Did you know that stress and your mindset have an effect on your skin. It may be making your acne worse and you don’t even realize it! Try these tips to reduce stress so that you can finally clear your acne.

3 Ways to Lift Your Spirits! Are you in a rut? Not in the mood to do anything?

Sometimes we get burnt out with our day to day lives and need to make some small changes to put us back in a good mood. Here are a few things you can do to lift your spirits!

  1. Start a gratitude journal! Spend 20 min and write down everything that comes to your mind that you’re grateful for. It might be hard at first, a cup of coffee, a new flavor of tea, a bright sunny day - keep thinking about it and as things come up throughout the day, write them down. If you do this every day for a month you’ll find that you have a whole new attitude!
  2. Stretch! Spend some time doing stretches. Touch your toes, use a door frame and twist your arms and back. Feel the stretch. As we age our muscles get tighter, that’s why they say people shrink when their older! By stretching out your muscles it will help with flexibility and every day tasks.
  3. Try a new recipe! Even if it’s just a big salad with all the toppings. Trying something new gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Eating anti-inflammatory foods also helps clear your skin so add some walnuts or blueberries to your salad!
